2021 Ford Explorer Trim Overview
The Iconic SUV Turns 30
The SUV that started it all was the Ford Explorer. As the Explorer is celebrating its 30th Anniversary, the automaker is offering seven attractive and well-equipped options. The iconic SUV continues to come in sporty, luxurious, and rugged trims so drivers can choose the style that fits their own.
At Group 1 Ford of Rivertown, we proudly carry the 2021 Ford Explorer in all the trim levels. Our sales experts would love to show you the different features and configurations in the popular SUV. Contact us today.
Seven Well-Equipped Trims
The 2021 Ford Explorer comes in seven trims ranging in price from the basic Explorer and the XLT to the high-end King Ranch and Platinum. No matter the trim, the Explorer comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot 360 Technology including driver-assist features like Lane-Keeping System, Rear View Camera with Washer, and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control.
The two base models come standard with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, but as drivers upgrade to the Explorer Limited a 3.3-liter V6 hybrid engine becomes an option. The Explorer Platinum and Explorer ST both come with the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6. The ST and Platinum deliver 400 and 365 horsepower respectively. Some models can tow up to 5,600 pounds, and they all come standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Seating Configurations and Interior Features
For added convenience, the Explorer has three rows of seats. Ford made it easy to get into the third row as a new mechanism moves the second-row seats. With all seats in place, four carry-on suitcases fit in the rear cargo area.
With the third row folded, 30 bags fit easily in the room expanse. A twin-panel moonroof is an available option on trims except for the base Explorer.
The Explorer and Explorer XLT have cloth seats, while the Limited model starts upgrading seats with leather seating. The XLT trim and other upgraded trims give buyers the choice of second-row captain’s chairs or bucket chairs. The rugged Timberline model has ActiveX seating material.
The sporty ST trim has leather seats, while the King Ranch has Del Rio leather in all three rows. Finally, the top-of-the-line Platinum trim has high-end Tri-Diamond Perforated Leather seating.
Entertainment and Connectivity
Drivers who choose the Limited, Timberline, ST, and other upgraded trims get the SYNC Voice-Activated Touchscreen Navigation System, the B&O Sound System from Bang & Olufsen with 12 speakers. All trims come with SiriusXM and Bluetooth.
The standard infotainment screen measures 8.0-inches. It includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Drivers can activate the Wi-Fi hotspot. The ST and Platinum models have a 10.1-inch optional vertical screen with voice-activated navigation and a rear-seat video system.
