EcoBoost® – The Future Of Power And Efficiency
Many Ford vehicles outperform their competitors, offering superior power and performance through smaller engines while also achieving optimum fuel efficiency. These victories are achieved thanks to a team of three engineering advances that come together to form what’s known as EcoBoost®. EcoBoost® is the combination of turbocharged technology, paired with Twin Independent Variable camshaft Technology, and direct injection. Dive in with us as we explore these advances and discover the benefits that they offer over a naturally aspirated engine.

How It Works
Twin Independent Camshaft Timing, known as Ti-VCT, continuously monitors and optimizes the intake and exhaust valves during engine operation. These two actions maximize horsepower and torque while minimizing fuel consumption during normal driving operation.

EcoBoost® turbocharged technology uses exhaust energy, which would otherize be wasted, to spin the turbocharger’s turbine that uses a compressor to pressurize the engine’s incoming air. The surge of pressurized air creates a boost of on-demand power that you can feel, allowing the EcoBoost® engine to deliver more power per liter than other naturally aspirated engines.

The component of the EcoBoost® system is its precise direct-injection system that allows the EcoBoost® engine to deliver the precise amount of fuel directly into the cylinder. The result is a more efficient burn during combustion that further increases power.

All Things EcoBoost®
EcoBoost® is featured in many Ford models across the lineup, delivering power, refinement, and efficiency. Here are all of the Ford models that utilize the advances of an EcoBoost® engine:

Ford EcoSport
The smallest of the EcoBoost® lineup is the turbocharged 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine found in the EcoSport. The compact crossover produces 123 horsepower and 125lb-ft of torque while returning an EPA estimated 29MPG on the highway.

Ford Fusion
The 2020 Fusion benefits from a choice of two EcoBoost® engines, both of which boasts power and efficiency. The first is a 1.5liter EcoBoost® 4-cylinder that generates 181 horsepower and 185lb-ft of torque and returns an EPA estimated 34MPG on the highway. Its more power option stands as a 2.0L EcoBoost® with Auto Start/Stop, which generates 245 horsepower and 275lb-ft of torque.

Ford Mustang
The 2020 Mustang’s Ecoboost engine is a 2.3L EcoBoost® 4-cylinder that puts out 310 horsepower and 350lb-ft of torque while returning an EPA-estimated 31MPG on the highway.

Ford Escape
The 2020 Ford Escape benefits from the same two EcoBoost® engines that are used in the Fusion.

Ford Edge
The 2020 Edge utilizes a 2.0-liter EcoBoost® 4-cylinder engine that generates 250 horsepower and 280lb ft of torque. The sporty variant of the lineup is dubbed the “Edge ST” and is powered by a 2.7-liter EcoBoost® V6 that puts out 335 horsepower 380 lb-ft of torque.

Ford Explorer
The entry-level 2020 Explorer uses the same powerful engine found in the Mustang, however, upgrade to the Explorer ST and enjoy the 3.0-liter EcoBoost® engine that generates 400 horsepower and 415lb-ft of torque.

Ford F-150
The 2020 Ford F-150 uses a wide range of powerful EcoBoost® engines that each cater to your various needs and work challenges. Highlighted in the F-150 is the High Output 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine that puts out an incredible 450 horsepower and 510lb-ft of torque.

Ford Expedition
The 2020 Expedition uses a more tamed version of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost® engine found in the F-150. The 2020 Expedition’s turbocharged engine is rated at 375 horsepower and 470lb-ft of torque.
